TILTON- Walter Edward Pate Sr. 88 of Tilton, passed away at 4:15pm Thursday July 8, 2004 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Tilton. He was born on February 24, 1916 in Fairberry, IL, the son of Albert and Oral (Lappin) Pate. Both his parents precede him in death. On September 4, 1937, Walter was united in marriage to Gladys H. (McNeese). She preceded him in death in March of 2001. Surviving family members that will deeply miss Walter are his four sons; Robert Pate of Danville, Jack (Judy) Pate of Phoenix, AZ, Walter Edward Jr. (Carol) Pate of Georgetown, and Charles Frank (Susie) Pate of Missouri. Also surviving is his brother; Randal (Betty) Pate of Danville, and his sister, Marsha Krzyznaski of Georgia, as well as six grandchildren; Susan, Jeff, Troy, Scott, Tracy, and Rachel, two step-grandchildren; Tina and Cory, twelve great grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. Four brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter, Tina Marie Pate, precede Walter in death. Walter proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and after being honorably discharged, he began working for the New York Central Rail Road Company until retirement in August of 1975. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Danville and enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and ballgames, as well as spending time with his family and friends.
