Walter Leon “Chip” Barnett Jr., 66, of Catlin, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014. Chip was born on Dec. 24, 1947, in Danville, to Walter Leon and Sarah Virginia Shutes Barnett. He married Pamela McLaughlin on Jan. 29, 1982. He loved his family and was known among family and friends for his great hugs. He loved the outdoors and mushrooming, hunting, fishing, gardening and farming. Chip lived several years in Ohio where he was a Senior Grain Tech for Deseret Grain. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Chip is survived by his spouse, Pam; three children, Jackie (Rudy) Cordova, Kenneth Barnett and Chad Barnett; nine grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Donetta) Barnett; and four sisters, Ginger (Leroy) Makemson and Diane (Larry) Surtees, Cindy Garrison and Sherry (Kenneth) Allyson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Charles McLaughlin, and sister, Edye Brumett. A service to celebrate Chips life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Bowman Avenue in Danville. Bishop William Fulton will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery.
