Walter "Blue" Jackowski, 80, of Danville IL passed away at 5:58 pm on Wednesday December 19, 2012 at Provena Medical Center in Danville. He was born April 9, 1932 to Frank and Angeline N. (Salakiewicz) Jackowski in Danville. Walter married Barbara Alice Malone on April 12, 1953 in Danville, she preceded him in death on November 11, 1989. Walter is survived by his son Stanley F. (Rebecca L.) Jackowski; five granddaughters - Christina M. (Eric), Brooke A., Eden K., Francesca L. and Grace N. Jackowski, and one great-grandson Julian Blue Allen Powell. He is preceded by his parents, wife Barbara, brothers - Frank, John, Hank and Ed Jackowski, Sisters - Antonette Collene, Ann Ryczer, Victoria Holts and Helen Jackowski, one infant brother and the twins. Blue was a part of the Danville High School Basketball team that went on to be 2nd in State in the 1950 Illinois State Tournament. He was also a stand out pitcher for Danville High School. Walter entered the army during the Korean War and as part of his service he was a Nike missile instructor of guided missiles in Washington State. He was in business with his brothers at Middle West Engravers, Stan-O-Matic Laundromat, Jackowski Apartments, Aurthur Treacher's Fish-N-Chips & Wiener King / Wiener Works. He was a member of the Rock Church, served as a treasurer in the past and he was a church Elder. Walter enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and was an avid fan of western movies. He loved his family and took great pride in his great-grandson Julian Blue. A celebration of Walter's life will be held at 10:00 am Saturday December 22, 2012 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Randy Downing officiating and Pastor Bill Hummer assisting. A short visitation will take place prior to services from 9:00 to 10:00. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with military honors performed by American Legion Post # 210. Memorials in Walter's name may be given to the Rock Church's Mission Work including Kings Kids Village in Africa and Encouragers Unlimited. Condolences may be left at WWW.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
