Walter E. Thiede

Walter E. Thiede, 83, of Lake Zurich, IL, formerly Danville, IL passed away at Lexington Healthcare Center in Lake Zurich, IL on May 15, 2016. Walter was born the son of Arthur and Goldie (Boyer) Thiede on July 8, 1932 in Danville, IL. Walter married Anne (Collings) on June 16, 1956 and later married Jennie (Dalton) on August 15, 1992. Surviving Walter are daughters Holly (Thiede) Parker, Megan Thiede-Krueger (Jesse), granddaughter Loryn M. Potter and Niece Jeanine Easley. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, sister Willetta E. (Tanner) Downing, brother Arthur Thiede Jr., nephew Carl Downing and son-in-law Stephen Parker. Walter E Thiede joined freemasonry in 1965. He was a very active and avid Mason. He was a member of Olive Branch Lodge #38, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1979. He joined the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite bodies in 1966, where he was the Thrice Potent Master of the Lodge of Perfection from 1981-82. Walter had the illustrious honor of 33rd degree bestowed upon him in September of 1983. He also served as Commander in Chief for the Valley of Danville from 1986-88. He was created a Shriner in 1973, and was a member of the Eastern Illinois Shrine Club. Walt was a member of all three York Rite Bodies, which he joined in 1979. Brother Thiede received his 50 year award from both Olive Branch and the Valley of Danville. Walter was also an Army veteran having served in the Korean War and while serving was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. A celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday May 21, 2016 with a Masonic service beginning at 10:30am at Danville Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Ed Stone from Bethel Lutheran. Entombment will be held at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday May 20, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
