Walter 'Dale' Lierman

Walter "Dale" Lierman, 83, of Ridge Farm, returned to his heavenly home on June 27, 2016. He was born to the late Walter and Pauline Lierman in Danville, IL, on May 13, 1933. After graduating from Danville High School in 1950, he attended Eureka College. Dale married his best friend, Betty, on April 15, 1956. They were blessed with a loving family. They enjoyed dancing, family vacations, bus trips, bowling, and most of all, just being in each other's company. They shared a remarkable love for over 60 years and held hands until the end. Dale joined the United States Marine Corps on February 17, 1953. He was a member of the Ridge Farm Methodist Church. He was president of the PTA and member of the Ridge Farm Lions Club. He served on the Ridge Farm School Board and the Crown Hill Cemetery Committee for 25 years. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 38 years. His patrons on the downtown mall enjoyed his vigor and his humor. Dale is survived by his wife, Helen "Betty", and his sons, Chris (Brenda) Lierman and Terry (Tonya) Lierman. He was lovingly referred to as "Gramps" by his grandchildren, Ali (Cameron) Young, Shea (Caitlyn) Lierman, Kaci Lierman, and Taylor Lierman, and his great-granddaughter, Amelia. A celebration of Dale's life will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, due to construction at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown. Pastor George Desmond will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm with Military honors conducted by the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203.
