Walter Bonebrake

Walter L. Bonebrake of Georgetown, IL, passed away at home on July 26, 2025, at the age of 90. Walter was born in Nichols, IA, on April 12, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Leona (VanVleet) Bonebrake, two sisters, Frances Schmitt and Bonnie Pribble, and ex-wife, Ruth Ann Bonebrake.

Walter is survived by his two sons, William (Brenda) Bonebrake of Georgetown and Stephen (Kelly) Bonebrake of Rocky Mount, MO. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Nicole (Steve) Poggendorf of Carterville, IL, Lindsay Bonebrake of Georgetown, IL, and Jessica Bonebrake of Tolono, IL.

Walter also leaves behind four great-granddaughters, Maddison Talbert, Annalese Rodriguez, Evie Poggendorf, and McKinlee Rasor, as well as one great-grandson, Colton Crippin.

Walter was a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1960. In 1967, he became a carpenter and joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Through this work, Walter worked on many projects in the area. Walter loved the outdoors. His hobbies included fishing, hunting for mushrooms and Indian relics, and woodworking.

Walter’s family has entrusted his final wishes of cremation to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Houghton Leasure in Georgetown. A private ceremony will be scheduled for a later date.
