Wallace F. Deck, 89, of Ridge Farm passed away at 4 AM on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman. He was born on March 24, 1928 in Newton, IL to Fay H. and Monna E. (Parke) Deck. He married Mary F. Freeland on September 12, 1948 in St. Marie, IL. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Teresa (Robert) Hall of Adel, IA, and a son Walter A. (Gail) Deck of Ridge Farm; sisters-in-law Joann Deck and Cassie Ballinger; 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Wally served his country in the Army National Guard from August of 1949 until he was honorably discharged in November of 1952. He worked as a Milk Tester of dairy cattle for Prairie Farms, as an IHC Dealer in Ridge Farm, and as an engineer for Bohn Heat and Transfer. In his youth, Wally enjoyed raising hogs on FFA projects, playing trombone in the Newton High School Marching Band, and worked both for the local ice house and feed mill. He was a member of the Ridge Farm Friends Church, serving as Youth Leader along with Mary for several years. Together they chaperoned many youth trips extending from coast to coast. Wally was a charter member of the Illiana Antique Auto Club in Danville, as well as participated in various other car clubs. He was also an active member of the Ridge Farm Lions Club, being named Illinois Lion of the Year. Wally was also recognized by the City of Ridge Farm for 60 years of contributions to the community by naming the park pavilion in his honor. Wally and Mary traveled extensively; many of those trips included their best friends, Wayne and Ila Blakeney. A service to celebrate the life of Wally F. Deck will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Ridge Farm Friends Church. Pastor Glenwood Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, June 22 at Sunset Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West St. in Georgetown.
