Virginia Varns

Virginia Varns passed away on November 8th at the age of 88. She was with her son Richard Varns, granddaughter Rachel Varns and grandson Jordan Varns at the time of her death. She was born August 5,1930 in Deerfield, South Dakota to Roy and Louise Solomon. Virginia married Harvey D. Varns on June 19th 1954 and was with him until his passing on April 1st 2015. Harvey and Virginia have 8 wonderful children together and raised them well. Virginia loved the Lord and ensured her children knew of His Love, Grace and Mercies. Through good times and bad, Virginia was the best wife and mother anyone could ask for, she was patient, kind, caring and always quick to comfort others in their time of need. Virginia was proceeded in death by her mother Louise Solomon, Father Roy Solomon, sisters, Evelyn and Margaret Solomon, Sister Betty Varns, and Brother Albert Solomon, husband Harvey Varns and her son Kenneth Varns. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Debra and Monty Colvin, Barbra and Doug Hitzel, Penny and Roy Mixon, Ginny and Chuck O'Brien, Don and Adriana Varns, Ron Varns, Richard and Julie Varns and Earleen Varns-McNare and Linda and Shirley Dickey as well as 26 grandchildren. Virginia lived with her son Richard Varns and his wife Julie Varns since the passing of her husband Harvey in 2015. Julie loved and cared for Virginia during the last three years of her life and Virginia was a blessing to that household. Julie and Rachel cared and comforted Virginia and never left her side in her last days, Virginia referred to them as two of her greatest blessings in life and ensured they knew it to her last day. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements. Per Virginia wishes cremation rites have been accorded and that there be no visitation or funeral service. She will be cremated and taken to rest with her husband, Harvey, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota at a date yet to be determined.
