The Lord Jesus called Virginia Ginny May Haluska, 85, of Danville, to be with her loved ones at 11:35 a.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009 at North Logan Healthcare. Virginia was born on January 29, 1924 in Danville, the eldest daughter of Hilton Duke John and Edith M. (Downey) Wright I. She opened her home to take care of both of her parents until their passing. Her father lived to be a 100. She married Bill Charles Haluska on August 9, 1947 at St. Patricks Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2001. She survived by her daughter- Christine Chris (Bill) Fletcher of Westville; one brother- H.J. Wright II of Key West, Florida; two sisters- Barbara (Jim) Bullias and Shirley Jones both of Danville; five grandchildren- Laura (Randy) Fletcher of Georgetown, John (Carrie) Waterman of Danville, Christopher (Kellie) Waterman of Danville, Jason Waterman of Danville and Melissa Waterman of Danville; sixteen great-grandchildren- Brandon, Chandler, Peyton, Ashley, Samantha, Chris, Caleb, Nick, Kacie, Jadeyn, Jace, James, Brooke, John, Elissa and Mason; step-grandchildren- Tina Strack, Theresa Hicks and Trudy Trammel all of Ft. Wayne, Indiana area; and several nieces and nephews with whom she was very close to. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Bill and son-in-law- John Waterman. Virginia attended Danville High School. In the early 1940s she worked at GE and Piggly Wiggly in Danville. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was involved in selling Avon for over 50 years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church. Virginia was past president of CWF and sang in both choirs at church. She was also a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts and was often a camp leader at Camp Tree Foil. She was a charter member and past president of the Sweet Adelines, member of the Autobahn Society, tour guide for the Vermilion County Museum, member of the Vermilion County Conservation, involved with Meals on Wheels, Wednesday Bunco Club for over 50 years and painted faces at the Haunted Happenings in Kennekuk Park. Virginia loved spending her time outdoors and teaching people about the birds, trees and flowers. She loved listening to music and while she was at the nursing home she became known as the whistler because of her beautiful whistling. She was the foundation of the family and organized all of the family events. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, who often called her Grandma Gina. Virginia will be sadly missed by all who knew her and loved her. A Celebration of the Life of Virginia Ginny May Haluska will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Hank Anderson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
