Virginia Mathisen

Virginia M. Mathisen, 82, of Danville passed away at 7:00 pm on Saturday April 3, 2004 at her son's home in Dover, MA. She was born on January 11, 1922 the daughter of Claude C. and Mae G. Gill DeLong in Odell, IL. She married Arthur Mathisen on August 31, 1946 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 2004. Survivors include two sons: Douglas (Julie) Mathisen of Dover, MA and Corby (Wendy) Mathisen of Hudson, OH, six grandchildren: Amy, Jennifer, Beth, and Kate Mathisen all of Dover, MA and Carly and Bradly Mathisen of Hudson, OH, two brothers: James DeLong and Claude (Mary) DeLong Jr. both of Dwight, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, "Art", two brothers: Raymond and Edward, as well as one sister: Ella Fortner She received her early education in Dwight, IL and graduated with the class of 1940. She was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Danville and Circle in Danville. For many years she was an active volunteer with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Programs, DACC Literacy Program, the Salvation Army Christmas Cheer and at the Americana Nursing Home. Her greatest joys in life were raising their two sons and babysitting the grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. In her free time she enjoyed taking walks, reading, golfing, bowling, working crossword puzzles and playing bridge.
