Virginia M. Thomas

Terre Haute, Ind. -- Virginia M. Thomas, 83, of Terre Haute and formerly of the Dana and Newport, Indiana area, passed away at 5:55 a.m. EDT Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born October 31, 1924 in Clinton, Indiana the daughter of the late Walter and Muriel W. Winters Moore. She married John William Thomas, III on August 16, 1944 in Clinton, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1991. Survivors include: one daughter, Tina Schmittgens of Terre Haute, Indiana; one son, John Thomas of Alabama; four grandchildren, Bryan(Jean Ann)Schmittgens, Eric Schmittgens, Michelle Thomas and Kayla Thomas; four great grandchildren; one brother, Ronald(Bette)Moore of Memphis, Tennessee. Virginia was preceded in death by her son in law, James Schmittgens and two brothers, Donald and Robert Moore. Virginia was a 1942 graduate of Newport High School. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading. Graveside service and burial of cremains: 10 a.m. EDT Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. There will be no visitation.
