Virginia “Ginny” Herndon (nee Eastman), of Princeton, TX, formerly of Danville, IL. went to her eternal resting place on May 8, 2026. She was at home surrounded by family.
Ginny is survived by her son Tom (Elizabeth) Harmon of Crystal Lake, IL. and daughter Karla (Jerry) Crowder of Princeton, TX, and brother Roy (Kim) Barton, of Fort Wayne, IN. Ginny was blessed to be loved by her eight Grandchildren who were each the apple of her eye. Arlo Harmon of Crystal Lake, Il., Gabe Harmon, of Crystal Lake, IL., Jake (Jessie) Crowder of Sabina, OH., Kendra (Tommy) Rush of Watauga, TX., Tyler (Lauren) Wigger of Lake in the Hills, IL., Karlee (Jake) Yerkes of Wonder Lake, IL., Virginia (Brad) Dunn, of Princeton, TX., and Moriah Steinhauer, of Rowlett, TX. Ginny was further blessed by seventeen adored Great Grandchildren, Leah, Dejiah, Ashton, Abigail, Aaliyah, Tyronn, McKenzie, Kiara, Kennedy, August, Cassius, Ellee, Peyton, Wyatt, Jayce, Jaxson, Stella, and Quinton. Ginny was further survived by many other cherished family and friends.
Ginny was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, her father Woodrow, her mother Florence Barton, and her first husband Dennis “Dennie” Harmon.
Ginny was born November 18, 1937 in Danville, Illinois to Woodrow and Florence. She graduated from Danville High School in 1955. She married William “Bill” Herndon on October 07, 1976. He preceded her in death in April of 2006. Ginny was a beloved fixture of and worked at Kmart for 34 years.
Ginny was a member of Holy Family Church. Ginny will always be remembered for her love of travel, shopping, eating good food with friends and family, and always greeting you with a huge hug! She loved the holidays and her home was always festive, including her treasured doll house that her late husband Bill had built for her, which was truly a sight to behold. They scoured the country looking for decor and adding to their impressive Department 56 Village that was a permanent fixture in their home. She was never one to miss a game of euchre with her grandchildren. One of things that almost everyone will miss are the cards Ginny lovingly picked and sent for every occasion. Her thoughtfulness and love for her family were unparalleled. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know and love her. They take immense comfort knowing she is pain free in paradise.
To celebrate her beautiful life, please join the family for a visitation on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL. Pastor Randy Downing will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in Ginny’s memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Lung Association.
