Tilton - Sarah Virginia Hope Shutes Barnett, 92, of Tilton, IL passed away at 4:33 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Virginia was born September 22, 1921 in Montezuma, IN, the daughter of Lelia Edith Watts and Franklin Harrison Shutes. She married Walter Leon “Red” Barnett in St. Louis, MO on May 6, 1941. To them were born five children, Virginia Leona (Leroy) Makemson of Indiana, Edythe Fern Brumett (deceased), Walter Leon (Pam) Barnett of Catlin, Diane Hope (Larry) Surtees of Indiana, and John Thomas II (Donetta) Barnett of Arizona. Virginia and Red were divorced in February 1956 in Danville. After working for 27 years at Bohn Heat Transfer, she retired in 1985. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission in Salt Lake City in 1987-1988. She enjoyed her yearly trips to Utah where she visited with friends and family. At the family history library in Salt Lake City, she searched out her ancestors and did family research for friends. She is survived by four children; 22 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Shutes; and a sister, Hazel Sheetz. Her parents, 3 sisters, a brother, one daughter, and a grandson preceded her in death. A service to celebrate the life of Virginia Barnett will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Danville. Bishop William Fulton will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
