Virgil Murphy

Virgil Murphy, 73, of Tilton stepped into glory, on August 16, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL., with his family by his side. Virgil was born the son of Dr. V. L. and Thelma (Thomson) Murphy on October 12, 1942 in Danville. Virgil married Linda Phelps January 7, 1967 in Georgetown she survives. Also surviving are two sons Christopher and Michael Murphy, one daughter Jennifer (David) Connolly, four grandchildren Hannah, Ella, Lila and Vera Connolly, one sister Delores (Ole) Olsen and his best friends Virgil and Janet Winkler. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents. Virgil was a grinder at Central Foundry GM, where he retired in 1991. He also was the parts delivery driver for Kohne Motors. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where he was an usher and maintained the church gardens. Virgil loved to garden; he had a large vegetable garden, and he enjoyed sharing his bounty with family, friends and his church family. A Celebration of Virgil's life will be held Monday August 22, 2016 at 11am at Faith Baptist Church in Danville, with Pastor Allan Rudie officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Faith Baptist Church on Sunday August 21, 2016 from 2-5pm. Memorials may be made in Virgil's name to Faith Baptist Church.
