Violet 'Vi' Divan Mendenhall

Violet M. Vi Divan Mendenhall, 78, of Rushville, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at 1:50 pm, Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Culbertson Long Term Care. She was born Thursday, March 28, 1929 in Catlin Township, Vermilion County Illinois. She was the daughter of the late J. Clifford and Pearle E. Combs Gillen. She married Harold F. Divan August 16, 1947 in Henderson, Kentucky. He passed away July 31, 1956. She later married L. Gordon Jake Mendenhall July 10, 1970 in Ogden, IL. He passed away May 7, 1997. Surviving are four children; Mick Divan and wife Judy of Danville, IL; Judy Lazzell and husband Terry of Rushville, IL; Randy Divan and wife Sue of Normal, IL; Bob Divan and wife Kay of Rushville, IL; (15) grandchildren; (13) great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Bud Gillen. Violet graduated from the House of James Beauty School in 1957, then opened a beauty shop in her home which she operated until she moved to Rushville in 1970. Violet also enjoyed working with ceramics and sharing what she made with family and friends. Her ceramics are still enjoyed by many. She enjoyed her time volunteering at the Help Center in Rushville and made many friends while working there. Most of all Violet loved the time she was able to spend with her family. She touched the lives of all she encountered, being known to many as Granny. She was a member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ in Danville and attended the First United Methodist Church in Rushville. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday December 31, 2007 at the Sunset Funeral Chapel in Danville with Rev. Jim Russell officiating. Internment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Oakwood, IL. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville and from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday at the Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association, 639 York St., Quincy, IL 62301 or Cass " Schuyler Area Hospice.
