Violet E Gilroy

SIDELL - Violet E. Gilroy, 85, passed away at 12:20am, Thursday, January 10th, 2008, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born on February 7th, 1922, in Georgetown the daughter of Charles and Grace (Morgan) Hewitt, both deceased. She was wed to Paul Walker Gilroy on February 7th, 1942, in Sidell. He preceded her in death in 2000. Those who will miss her include: her sons, David (Linda) Gilroy of Ridge Farm and Charles Gilroy of Sidell; her daughters, Sandra Thornton of Ogden, Anita Schmidt of Tilton, Elaine (Kevin) George of Veedersburg, IN, and Janice Wade of Sidell; her sixteen grandchildren; her twenty-three great grandchildren; and her three great-great grandchildren. Her sister, Ruth, preceded Violet in death. Violet was a school bus driver for the Jamaica School District for several years. She was a member of the Pleasant Mound Church of Christ. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and she enjoyed tending flowers. She loved to be outdoors and spending time with her cats and feeding the squirrels. A celebration of Violets life will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, January 13th, 2008, at Pleasant Mound Church of Christ, east of Georgetown. Paul Kent will officiate the service. Visitation will be 4pm to 7pm, Saturday, January 12th, 2008, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown, IL. She will be laid to rest in Pleasant Mound Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in her name to Pleasant Mound Church of Christ.
