Viola Jane (Royse) Hosch
Jane Hosch, 100 years of age, of Danville, IL, passed away July 8, 2023.
Jane was born September 9, 1922 in Danville, IL, the daughter of John Parker Royse and Myrtle Kathryn Carpenter Royse. She attended Roselawn, Franklin, and Garfield Grade Schools and graduated from Garfield. Then, in 1940, she graduated from Danville High School.
When the war fighting Japan ended in 1946, Harlan Hosch was released from active duty in the U.S. Navy where he served as Gunnery Officer on the destroyer U.S.S. Burns. Harlan and Jane were married on Feb. 24, 1946 in Central Christian Church with Rev. Frank Kennedy performing the ceremony. They enjoyed almost 60 years together until his death on Nov. 19, 2003.
God blessed them with four wonderful children: Luana (Jim) Oiler of Louisville, KY; Harlan (Randy) Hosch of Champaign, IL; Susan DeVoe of Yorktown, IN; and Chris (Debi) Hosch of Danville, IL.
They, in turn, provided us with ten wonderful grandchildren: Ashleigh Oiler; Megan (David) Balutanski; James (Kristy) Oiler; Ryan (Gina) Hosch; Erin Hosch; Adrienne (Steve) Ockrim; Cameron (Jenny) DeVoe; Spencer (Dayci) DeVoe; Andrew Hosch; and Steve Hosch (deceased). Four Great-grandchildren: Scarlett Hosch, Tyler Ockrim, Vincent DeVoe, Van Balutanski, Ethan Ockrim, Emma DeVoe, Berkeley DeVoe, Max Balutanski, Josephine DeVoe, and Ava Oiler have been added to the family.
Jane worked in the Trust Department of The Second National Bank for several years and, following that, was Office Manager for Wendys in Danville and the Peoria, Pekin, and Chillicothe areas for many years.
She had a very happy life with her family, friends, ball games, dance recitals, painting walls and canvases, decorating, sewing, and church. She was raised in the Third Church of Christ, which became Central Christian Church. After marriage in Central Christian, she joined her husband at Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and served in many different capacities at the church. Their children were raised there and both daughters were married there.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; (June Freeman of Louisville, KY and Virginia Nelson of Danville, IL), daughter-in-law; Janet Hosch (wife of Randy Hosch) and grandson Steve Hosch.
