Vickey McDonald, 71 of Urbana passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, in Gilman, Il. Born on April 7, 1955, in Urbana Vickey’s life was marked by dedication, service, and a profound love for her family and friends.
Vickey proudly served in the United States Army from 1975 to 1980, a period during which she was stationed in Belgium. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Norman, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage filled with deep companionship and mutual support. After completing her military service, she pursued higher education and earned a master’s degree from Eastern University, exemplifying her lifelong commitment to learning and growth.
Her professional career was distinguished by 28 years of dedicated service in Information Technology at C.E.R.L. Additionally, Vickey spent four and a half years working in Iraq with the Army Corps of Engineers, where her expertise and commitment contributed to important projects abroad. She retired in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication.
Vickey enjoyed cooking, gardening, and traveling, pursuits that brought joy both to herself and those around her. Her dedication extended to her role as a Girl Scout leader in the United Kingdom, where she nurtured young minds and instilled values of kindness, courage, and community service. Above all, Vickey delighted in spoiling her grandchildren—Ethan, Jacob, and Holly—and treasured every moment spent with her family.
Vickey is survived by her loving husband, Norman; her sons Robert (Katie) McDonald and Craig McDonald; her grandchildren Ethan, Jacob, and Holly; her mother, Edith and several siblings. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Stewart, and her sister, Dorie.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday June 10, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center's Champaign Chapel located at 710 N Neil St, Champaign, Illinois 61820. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3pm.
