Vernon L. Light, 86, of Bismarck passed away on December 25, 2009 at VA Illiana Health Care Systems in Danville. Vernon was born April 26, 1923 in Bismarck, Illinois son of Ethan Light and Alice (Bradford) Lang. He married Romaine C. Catron on May 20, 1944 in High Point, NC. She preceded him in October of 1999. Survivors include three sons: Terry (Donna) Light of Bismarck, Steven (Kathy) Light of Danville, and Darrell (Margaret) Light of Danville; half-brothers: John Light of MN and Dale Light of UT; half-sisters: Harriet Vandergrist, Virginia Nelson, and Patty Douglas all of MN; grandchildren: Mary (Ron) Stonecipher of Bismarck, Barbra (Mike) Fogle of Normal, IL, Eric Light of Danville, Joel (Tara) Light of Martin, MI, and Kristin (Cole) Zemke of Essex Junction, VT; great-grandchildren: Parker and Addison Stonecipher; Olin Zemke, Bennett Light, and Ella Fogle; special friend Alvina VanPelt and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather. Vernon served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Chief Warrant Officer during WWII. He had worked as a printer for many years and owned & operated Light Printing. After retirement he drove a school bus for the children of Bismarck and loved working with his sons at Berrys Garden Center. Vernon enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking, but above all he loved to help people in any way he could lend a hand. A Celebration of Vernons Life will be held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Dave Burger officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Following the services he will be cremated and laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Vernons name to Farmers Chapel Methodist Church and/or American Legion Post #210. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
