Vernon DuFrain

Vernon DuFrain, born on December 30, 1926, in Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Savoy at the age of 99. Vernon's life was marked by quiet strength, enduring faith, and a deep sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him.

From his earliest days, Vernon demonstrated a zest for life and a remarkable capacity for kindness. Vernon answered the call to serve his country. From 1944 to 1947, he served honorably in the United States Navy, an experience that profoundly influenced his principles and his lifelong devotion to honesty and service.

Vernon's journey through life was enriched by deep and abiding relationships. He married two wonderful women who each held a special place in his heart. Marion Alice DuFrain (Yoder), his devoted wife of sixty-one years, brought partnership and warmth that spanned generations. Following Marion’s passing, Vernon found companionship once again with his childhood sweetheart, Marjorie Ellen Kelley, sharing thirteen cherished years together. The bonds he created with Marion and Marjorie reflected Vernon's capacity for love, loyalty, and true friendship.

A loving father, Vernon is survived by his daughter, Darlene DuFrain. He is also remembered fondly by his nephews, Dean Carrico and Larry Carrico and various step – nieces and nephew.

Vernon's life was touched by loss, as he was predeceased by his parents, Vernon W. DuFrain and Jessie DuFrain (Denton), his brother Jack, his sister Betty, and his wives Marion Alice DuFrain and Marjorie Ellen Kelley. His memory endures, sustained by the many lives he impacted through love and laughter.

Those who knew Vernon will remember him as a good father, a caring and honest Christian man, and someone who never missed an opportunity to share a joke or brighten a room with his infectious joy. His integrity and gentle humor left lasting imprints on those fortunate enough to call him a friend or family.

Vernon's family will hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
