Vernie L. Thomas

Vernie L. Thomas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend departed this life peacefully on August 27, 2025, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL at the age of 77.

Vernie was born on December 6, 1947, to Vern and Blanche (Lawless) Thomas in Jacksonville, IL., and raised in Arcadia, IL. He married his loving wife Mollee Ann Marshall at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb, IL on September 23, 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Mollee of Danville, IL, two sons, Nathan (Sara) Thomas of Bull Valley, IL and Jason Thomas of Cub Run, KY, seven grandchildren, Patrick Ganley, Marlowe Thomas, Piper Thomas, Kingston Thomas, Mia Thomas, Gavin Thomas and Grayson Thomas as well as special friend, Michael Mulcahey of Danville, IL.

Vernie was preceded in death by his parents.

Vernie was a long-time member of St Paul’s Catholic Church in Danville and retired as President & CEO of Interstate Publishers in 2003. His past affiliations include Elks Lodge #332 as Exalted Ruler, Elks Blood Band Board of Directors, Stonecrest (FL) Country Club, Danville Country Club, and the Corvette Club of Central Illinois. Vernie was well known as an avid collector of classic Corvettes and enjoyed spending time playing golf and working on landscaping projects. In retirement his greatest joys were in attending numerous dance recitals, plays, choir concerts, and athletic events as a grandparent.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at St Paul’s Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut St., Danville, Illinois 61832. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834.
