Vernice Gossar, 86 of Danville, passed away Saturday morning, May 16, 2009, at her residence. She was born on June 23, 1922, in Universal, IN, the daughter of William and Lou Stella (Carson) Dalton. On October 28, 1939, Vernice married Mr. Garlin Gossar in Rockville, IN. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1983. Survivors include her five sons, Gary Dean Gossar, Garlin Mark Gossar, Kevin Theodore (Friend- Linda Hinkle), all of Danville, James Michael (Angie) of Seymour, IN, and Barry (Teresa) Gossar of Westville. Her three daughters, Leona (Raymond) Halstead of Danville, Carrie Ping of Perrysville, IN, and Janice (Bud) Johnson of Kingman, IN. Vernice is also survived by her 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Her sister, Margaret Cirey, her son-in-law, John Snow of Cartersville, GA, daughter-in-law, Carol Gossar of Danville, special daughter-in-law, Jackie Gossar who was a great help in caring for Vernice during her short illness, and several nieces and nephews, also survive Vernice. Her Parents, one son, William Grant Gossar, one daughter, Judith Ann Snow, three brothers, Jesse Allen, Bill Dalton, Tom Dalton, and two sisters, Mary Farris and Ellen Dalton, precedes Vernice in death. In her earlier years, Vernice worked at the local Steak-N-Shake, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and as a sale representative for Avon. She loved to sew and make quilts and other crafts. She enjoyed travel, collecting ceramic pigs, and was an avid Cubs fan. Most importantly, Vernice enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ and a previous member of the Hooton Church of Christ for 56 years where she was a member of the Faith, Hope, and Charity Class and helped with Vacation Bible School. Vernice was a very special person, loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all who loved her. A Celebration of Vernice Gossars Life will begin at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Southside Christ of Christ located at 611 Forrest St. in Danville with Evangelist/Pastor Kevin Zeigler officiating. Internment will follow at Stearns Cemetery located near Muncie, IL. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, and from 9am until time of service on Wednesday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Vernices name to the Southside Church of Christ in Danville.
