Verna Myers

Verna R. Myers, after a remarkable four-and-a-half-years of battling against pancreatic cancer we have lost our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Everything she did in life she did with passion, be it loving her family, traveling, working, or politics. She was born in Salina, Kansas on March 8, 1939 and had a rough childhood but then met and married the love of her life Carl Myers who had come to her hometown with the Air Force (you have to love a man in uniform). Carl's military career took them to many different homes in the states across the U.S.A. and gave them three children, Pamella Myers, Lorri (John) Hausman, and Dirk (Rajeshwari) Myers. As a loving mother, she adored playing with her children and exploring the world outside. She was more than willing to set examples for them by twisting her ankle falling off a log after telling the kids not to walk on it or they would hurt themselves. When she started working outside the home it was just going to be part-time and then before long she was the district supervisor. She was great in sales because she could talk to any and every one. Traveling and adventure were also her passions and she visited most the United States as well as Ireland, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand. She loved scuba diving, jet boating (her preferred spot was the shoot - over river in New Zealand), and parasailing. Carl has said he would have had a boring life if he not married Verna. As the years went on she was blessed with four grandchildren, Mallory (Stephen) Haas, Jennifer (Andrew) Hagler, Kyle (Hanah) Britt, and Morgan Britt. She was also blessed with three step-grandchildren Todd Verma, Shaheena Verma, and Sean Verma. She felt truly blessed to spend the last years of her life playing with her great grandchildren Ian and Alison Haas and Brody, Luke, Easton and Jack Britt. Even after suffering setbacks caused by her illness she went to soccer games, had tea parties, played WII, colored and made sure the great-grandchildren had toys and treats aplenty so they would always know she loved them. A visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil Street, Champaign. Verna did what she could to find cures for this terrible illness and would appreciate any donations you would care to make to help fight pancreatic cancer. Please visit pancan.org for information. Please join her family in sharing memories, photos, and Videos on her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
