Verna Louise Huckstadt

Verna Louise (Flessner) Huckstadt, 82, of Danville IL, passed away at 10:52 pm on Friday August 30, 2013 at Hawthorn Inn in Danville IL. Born on August 3, 1931in Fort Wayne IN, she was the daughter of Ekke and Louise (Ahlemeyer) Flessner. She married Ralph A. Huckstadt on September 2, 1950 in Danville IL; he preceded her in death on May 14, 2004. Other survivors include two sons - Ralph W. (Ruth) Huckstadt of Bloomington, IL and Norman (Nora OBlennis) Huckstadt of Danville; three grandchildren - Heather, Hillary, Justin; and step grandchildren. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, two half brothers, and her husband Ralph. A graduate of Sidell High School, Verna was a devoted member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville. She actively participated in the T.O.P.S health group along with other ladies. She worked for over 30 years as a CNA and retired from the Cris Center. In recognition for her work as a CNA at Cris, she and her husband traveled to Washington D.C. in 1998, where she received the “Outstanding Older Worker” award for the state of Illinois. A music lover at heart, she could play the keyboard and often did so for her Cris Center homecare clients. A world traveler, she and her husband Ralph A. visited distant countries including Egypt and Mexico, but her favorite trips were those she took to see her grandchildren. A celebration of Vernas life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, IL with Pastor Heidle of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating and burial at Lutheran Cemetery in Danville. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
