Vern C Ingalsbe

Vern C. Ingalsbe, 93, of Danville passed away at 12:55 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center. He was born the son of Ira and Emily (Craig) Ingalsbe on February 22, 1926 in Sidell, IL. He married Kathryn Redman on July 21, 1951.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, who passed on February 18, 2018; and one daughter, Karla Kay Jehle.

Vern leaves behind one son, Steven Craig (Karrie) Ingalsbe M.D. of El Paso, IL; five grandchildren, Evan Lyle Jehle, Emily Marie Jehle, Daniel Craig Ingalsbe, Rachael Marie Ingalsbe, and Matthew Robert Ingalsbe; two great-grandchildren, and one son in law, Merle Jehle.

Vern graduated from East Peoria High School in 1944. He was drafted into the Navy right out of high school and attended Great Lakes Boot Camp. After boot camp, he was sent to Iowa State for Diesel School, then to Virginia where he was assigned to the LST 859 ship. After leaving Virginia, he traveled to New Orleans, through the Panama Canal, and up the Pacific. Once home he entered the U of I, graduating in 1950. Vern played in the Varsity 150 lb Football League for the U of I which gave him the opportunity to travel to several states to play. Once done with school, Vern got a job at GM and later retired in 1980, working there for 30 years. Vern regularly attended the American Legion Post 210 and the Elks Club. He had a deep passion for Illinois Athletics as well as spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Officiating will be Pastor Randall Robinson. Military Rites will be performed at the funeral home by the American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be at a later date in the Swan Court Chapel Mausoleum in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. James United Methodist Church.
