Danville - Vera Mae Schoolcraft, 94, of Danville, passed away at 2:15 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Presence United Samaritan Medical Center in Danville, IL. Vera was born on Dec 23, 1921 the daughter of Edgar D. and Rena M (Parsons) White in Danville, IL. Vera eloped with the love of her life, Ralph G Schoolcraft, on a Monday the 30th of June in 1941. Vera graduated from Armstrong High School shortly before eloping with Ralph and was a homemaker for her husband and 5 children. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Danville for over 60 years. Vera greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially outdoor adventures. She enjoyed her gardening, mushroom hunting, taking hikes and canoeing. At 85 years old, she hiked up Mt Lassen in California which gains 2,000 ft in elevation in 2 and miles. She was also an animal lover, enjoying her dogs, cats as well as feeding the wild birds out in the backyard. Vera also played in a Euchre club with her friends and was a champion at word searches. She could be seen taking her daily walks around the Lake Boulevard neighborhood. Survivors include: one son: Gary (Anthony Gould) Schoolcraft of Paso Robles, CA, three daughters: Sandra (Randy) Hawthorne of Tyler, TX, Nancy Starkey and Karen Kolb both of Danville, IL, one brother: Billy D. White of Westville, IL, six grandchildren: Jason (Michelle) Schoolcraft of Danville, IL, Derek Hawthorne of Tyler, TX, Darren (Amy) Hawthorne of Houston, TX, Erika (Joseph) Jacks of Bullard, TX, Cecily Gillis of Pearland, TX and Jennifer (Randy) Shuman of Danville, IL, two great grandchildren; Brayton and Blaise Shuman of Danville, IL and two step great grandchildren Brooke and Hunter of Danville, IL. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, one son; Richard Schoolcraft, one grandson; Chad Schoolcraft, one granddaughter; Nikki Schoolcraft, three sisters Margaret Fletcher, Lela Richardson and Bonnie White as well as one sister-in-law; Phyllis White. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday May 28, 2016 Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G.
