Vera Maxine Brooks

Vera Maxine Brooks, 89, of Pleasant Meadows Christian Village, Chrisman, formerly of Westville, passed away at 6:51am, Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born the daughter of Homer R. and Effie M. (McElwee) Gebbink on October 8, 1919, in St. Joseph, IL. She was wed to Dale Brooks on October 22, 1937, in Lebanon, IN, until his passing on July 8, 2003. Those who will miss her include: her son, Robert Bob (Betty) Brooks of Westville; her grandchild, Robert Rob Brooks Jr. of Westville; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Vera worked for the Westville High School as a Cook for six years. In her early years, she helped her husband on the farm. Vera was a member of the Westville First Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Vermilion Fishing Club of Oakwood and a member of the Order of the Easter Star. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, camping and working puzzles. Vera loved to cook. A celebration of Veras life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with Karl Marshal officiating. Visitation will be 4pm-7pm, Friday, September 25, 2009, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Sandusky Cemetery, Westville. Memorial donations may be given in her name to Westville First Church of Christ or Pleasant Meadows Christian Village.
