Danville Vera Louise Skinner, 93, of Danville joined her family in eternal life at 12:50 AM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at her home. She was born June 15, 1930 to Donald and Louise (Lichlyter) Conner. She married Jessie Harold Skinner on September 10, 1949 in Argenta, IL. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2016.
She is survived by three children, Jim (Karen) Skinner of TN, Susan Siddens of Danville, and Anna (Joe) Melecosky of Westville; grandchildren, Heather (Tim) Cottingham, April (Trip) Siddens-Johnson, Amy (Eric) Wine, Michelle (Matt) Skeen, Lisa (Jason) Miller, Carrie (Brodie) Krause, Jacob (Beth) Ingalsbe, Danielle Ovalle, Leanne (Tim) Bright, Kayla (Randy) Krum, Nolan (Alicia) Ingalsbe, Sarah (John Powell) Skinner, and Erin Skinner; 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Yanders.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son Bob Skinner; two sisters and a brother; and a great granddaughter, Katie.
Many may know Vera through her work as an Avon sales representative, which she did for over 50 years. Many others may also know her as a pillar in the Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church community. There she taught Sunday School and was involved in many of the other church activities and events. She was passionate about her faith and it showed through the tireless volunteer work she took part in.
Whether it was flowers or vegetables, Vera loved working in her gardens. If she wasnt keeping her yard looking perfect she would be canning the vast amounts of produce she grew every year. Her talents extended to sewing as well. Vera made many of the clothes her children wore and nearly every dress for every special occasion. She also enjoyed her frequent camping and fishing trips that she took with her family.
A service to celebrate the life of Vera Skinner will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church in Danville. Pastor Jie Wu and Chaplain Rita Manning will officiate. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Farmers Chapel or OSF Hospice in Urbana.
