Vera Huffman

Vera M. Huffman of Danville passed away on February 18, 2009 at her home. Vera was born September 11, 1918 in Danville daughter of Adney and Daisy Atwood Tarpley. She married Joe Huffman on July 16, 1978 at First Baptist Church in Danville by Pastor Stuermer. He survives along with 2 daughters: Charlene (Kenneth) Ping of Tom Bean, TX and Cheryl (Tom) Welborn of Sanford, NC; sisters: Norma Woodrum of Danville, IL and Lois Larimer of Dyer, IN; 6 step children: Joe (Janice) Huffman of Kansas City, MO, Diana (Frank) Paddock of Kingman, IN, Debra Smith of Urbana, IL, Elizabeth (Richard) Sadowski of Georgetown, IL, Timothy (Cathy) Huffman of Bedford, IN, and James Huffman of Danville, IL; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Special friends Evelyn Dobbles of Pensacola, FL & Marie Kelly of Danville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Vaughn Butch Whitaker, brother Roy Tarpley, and grandson Paul Thomas Pete Welborn Jr. Vera was a 36 graduate of Danville High School and had worked for District #118 for several years and retired from C & EI Railroad after 24 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville for 50+ years. Vera loved to travel and take pictures, but most of all collecting bells was her favorite pastime. A Celebration of Veras Life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 21, 2009 at The First Baptist Church in Danville with Pastor Jerry Cummins officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 -1 Saturday morning at the church. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center will be handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
