Veotrice McGinnis, 86, of Danville passed away at 6:15 PM on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Paxton, IL. She was born on August 9, 1927 in Iroquois County, IL, the daughter of Joseph Andrew and Medie (Hauk) Carter. She married Eldon McGinnis on September 15, 1946 in Wellington, IL. Eldon preceded her in death on February 23, 1994. Surviving her are two sons, Kenny (Norma) McGinnis of Lafayette, IN and David (Karen) McGinnis of Danville, four grandchildren, Phillip (Nicole) McGinnis of Earl Park, IN, Mitzi (Jerry) Wasik of Chicago, IL, Kimberly McGinnis of Atlanta, GA, Andrew McGinnis of Danville, six great grandsons, one great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Veotrice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and four brothers. She was a long time member of Second Church of Christ in Danville. Veotrice was employed by Dr. McCann in Hoopeston and worked at the VA Hospital in Danville. She was known as the “Lunch Lady” at Danville High School. She loved sports of any kind, especially University of Illinois basketball, avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved playing cards. Veotrice and Eldon enjoyed square dancing together, camping and playing cards. She was always ready for a game of Euchre and could be found playing wherever there was a game going on. A celebration of Veotrices life will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Dale Deneal officiating the service. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in Veotrices name to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life or CRIS Senior Citizen Center.
