Veda Mae Reed died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. She was born on January 12, 1919, in Catlin, to Charles and Leota Mae (Smoot) Byerly. She married Harry Franklin Reed on February 14, 1943 in Washington, D.C. He survives. Survivors include three sons, James (Marcia) of Champaign, David of Danville, and Richard (Mert) of Danville; two grandchildren, Angela (Jonathan) Kerr and James Brian (Stacey) Reed of Champaign; and five great-grandchildren, Caroline Reed Kerr, Addison Kerr, Julianne Kerr, Carson Reed and Haley Reed, all of Champaign. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Byerly and Herman Byerly, and sister, Nadine Lawhead Mayer. Veda, who was affectionately known as Runt, worked in Washington, D.C. and New York for the government during WWII. Upon returning to Catlin, she worked for BiState Warehouse for 45 years. She was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ, the Boat Club, Elks Club, and the American Legion and was a charter of Vermilion Hills Country Club. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville. Funeral service will be at Sunset Funeral Home at 10:00 am Friday in Danville. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Danville In lieu of flowers please make donations to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or the charity of your choice.
