GEORGETOWN - Van E. Sheets, 83, died at 9:28am, Thursday, March 15th, 2007, at Provena USMC. She was born on December 15th, 1923, in Georgetown the daughter of Ben and Felicia (Sandy) Gonsowsky. She married Jack Sheets on February 19th, 1947 at Lawrenceville, IL. He preceded her in death, as did her parents, one sister, and three brothers. Those surviving include: her son, Stewart (Susie) Sheets of Georgetown; her daughter, Jan Ellen Sheets of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Jody (Tim) Lambert of Georgetown, Jackie (Jamie) Pasquale of Georgetown, Jody (Steven) Davis of Georgetown, and Rusty Swaim of Terre Haute, IN; her three great grandchildren, Dean Lambert, Ashlee Davis, & Andrew Davis, all of Georgetown; and her brother, Ed Brent of Georgetown. Van was a graduate of Michael Reese Hospital, School of Nursing in Chicago, IL. Following graduation she worked as a stewardess for American Airline, based in Chicago. Upon returning to this area, she worked in the Obstetrics Department at Lakeview Hospital. She later worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville, retiring after twenty-one years of service. She then worked at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman. Van was a member of the NARFE and Illinois Sheriffs Association. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and counted cross-stitch. She was one of the founders of the Annual Counted Cross-stitch Show held each year at Forest Glen Preserve. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Saturday, March 17th, 2007, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. As per her wishes, Van will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to the Georgetown Fair Association or the Georgetown Library.
