Valentine H. Spiralke, 81, of Danville, passed away at 5:12am on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville. The youngest of six children, Valentine was born on April 4, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, son of Paul and Maria Spiralke. Both are deceased. He was a high school, and Eastern Illinois University graduate. Served in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1950, and was station aboard an LST, and an ARL 7, both ships serving in the Pacific Ocean during the Korean War. After being honorable discharged in 1954, valentine then began working as a machinist for the former Continental Can Company in Danville for 31 years, retiring in 1979. In 1957, Valentine married Phyllis Johnston in Chicago. She survives along with three daughters; Debra (George J.) Youhas; Karen (Jerry) Patterson; and Susan (Jim) Lunde. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. His parents and one granddaughter preceded Valentine in death. He was a member of the first Presbyterian Church in Danville, and cherished the time he spent with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and working with his hands. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Blackhawk's, and will be truly miss by all that knew him. A Celebration of Life Service for Valentine H. Spiralke is scheduled for 11:00am on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with burial and military honors to follow at Springhill Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will began at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, until time of service, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Valentines name to the donor's favorite charity.
