Valarie Jane Smith

Valarie Jane Smith, 86, of Danville, IL passed away at 9:43 AM on January 15, 2026 in Danville, IL.

Valarie was born on March 9, 1939 the daughter of Virgil Louis and Evelyn Kathaleen (Sowers) Taylor in Danville, IL. She married Charles “Chuck” F. Smith on December 31, 1955 in Oakwood, IL and he preceded her in death on February 9, 2022.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Michael Tenerio) Hall of Danville, IL, three grandchildren, Amber (Jeff) Rodgers, Elizabeth Sams and Charles (Brittany) Hall, as well as 10 great- grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Valarie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles “Chuck” Smith and four siblings, Howard Taylor, Allen Taylor, Audra Taylor and Deborah Taylor.

Valarie attended CrossRoads Christian Church and was a retired Nurse. Over the years she worked at both, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Lakeview Hospital in Danville, IL. In her free time she enjoyed painting, coloring, gardening and crocheting. She also enjoyed watching her “Golden Girls” television program and spending time in the outdoors in the sun.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Robbie Ketcherside will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Valarie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
