Trena Kay Smith,69,of Danville, passed away at 4:26 AM on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Trena was born on December 6, 1942 in Danville the daughter of Virgil Manfred and Lois Alberta (Wonderlin) Smith. She was a graduate of Diamond Grade School, Oakwood High School and Eastern Illinois University. She received her Master's Degree in Music from the University of Illinois in 1988. She was also a member of the Vermilion County Retired Teachers Association, IEA-NEA and Delta Kappa Gamma. Trena taught music for eight years in the Amboy, IL school district and retired in 1995 after teaching twenty-two years in the Jamaica school district. She was a member of the Danville Chapter of the Sweet Adelines for over thirty years. Her quartet, "In Accordance", was always very well received. Trena had an avid interest in history, especially English history. She also loved to travel and planned many trips with family and friends. The Chicago Cubs, Fighting Illini, Green Bay Packers and anything Republican were among her favorite interests. Trena was known and respected by her friends for her "take charge" personality. You could always depend on her to produce a quality performance or product. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister- Carol Jane Smith. Trena is survived by one brother- Daryl W. (Lois) Smith of Mukwonago, WI, one niece- Dustine (Remus) Guillermo of Muskego, WI, and two special grand nephews and niece Noah, Joshua and Madelyn Guillermo of Muskego, WI. Trena also leaves behind her two little cat angels- Sassy and Sammy. A celebration of Trena's life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Pastor Patti Wise officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakhill Cemetery in Danville. Memorials can be made in Trena's name to the Batestown United Methodist Church.
