Tommie Emberson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on
August 15, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Danville, Illinois. Born on April 2, 1945, in
Indianapolis, Indiana, Tommie was a man who embraced life with a joyful spirit and a
dedication to his family.
Tommie served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, an experience that
shaped his values and instilled a deep sense of pride within him. His belief that hard
work and dedication could yield great accomplishments was evident in all aspects of his
life. A devoted sports fan, he cheered passionately for the Chicago Cubs and the
Chicago Bears, as well as the University of Illinois sports teams. He found joy not only
in watching sports but also in coaching his children’s teams.
Among his many interests, Tommie enjoyed spending time playing golf, tending to his
lawn, and gardening, finding peace and fulfillment in these simple pleasures. He also
loved taking overnight trips to the gambling casino with Judy.
Above all, Tommie cherished his role as a grandfather, embracing the opportunity to
nurture and connect with his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with an
eighth on the way.
Tommie is survived by his devoted spouse of 59 years, Judy Emberson, and his
children: Tommie "Joe" Emberson Jr. and his wife Valerie, daughter, Tammy Sublon and
her significant other Butch VanKeulen, Corky Emberson and his wife Susan. He is also
survived by his siblings, Rodney Emberson (Eleen) and Mary Kominger (Jim).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Alta (Watson) Emberson, his
sister Barbara Whitaker, his brother Steve Emberson, and his beloved grandchildren
Joey and Callie Emberson.
Tommie Emberson will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family and his
belief in the power of perseverance. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew
him.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at 11am on Friday, September 5, 2025, at
Maplewood Cemetery in Rantoul.
