Tommie Emberson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on

August 15, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Danville, Illinois. Born on April 2, 1945, in

Indianapolis, Indiana, Tommie was a man who embraced life with a joyful spirit and a

dedication to his family.

Tommie served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, an experience that

shaped his values and instilled a deep sense of pride within him. His belief that hard

work and dedication could yield great accomplishments was evident in all aspects of his

life. A devoted sports fan, he cheered passionately for the Chicago Cubs and the

Chicago Bears, as well as the University of Illinois sports teams. He found joy not only

in watching sports but also in coaching his children’s teams.

Among his many interests, Tommie enjoyed spending time playing golf, tending to his

lawn, and gardening, finding peace and fulfillment in these simple pleasures. He also

loved taking overnight trips to the gambling casino with Judy.

Above all, Tommie cherished his role as a grandfather, embracing the opportunity to

nurture and connect with his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with an

eighth on the way.

Tommie is survived by his devoted spouse of 59 years, Judy Emberson, and his

children: Tommie "Joe" Emberson Jr. and his wife Valerie, daughter, Tammy Sublon and

her significant other Butch VanKeulen, Corky Emberson and his wife Susan. He is also

survived by his siblings, Rodney Emberson (Eleen) and Mary Kominger (Jim).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Alta (Watson) Emberson, his

sister Barbara Whitaker, his brother Steve Emberson, and his beloved grandchildren

Joey and Callie Emberson.

Tommie Emberson will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family and his

belief in the power of perseverance. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew
