Covington, IN- Tim Whitaker, 61, of Covington flew to Jesus at 11:20 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on May 30, 1952 in Crawfordsville, IN to Andrew Jackson and Ethel E. Flaharty Whitaker. He married Linda M. Simmerman on July 29, 1973 in Veedersburg. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Tony (LaShai) Whitaker of Hillsboro, IN and a daughter, Anna (Matt) Bowers of Covington; four brothers, James (Evelyn) Whitaker, Charles (Phyllis) Whitaker, Joe (Sandy) Whitaker, and Dan (Sue) Whitaker; two sisters, Margaret Richey and Carolee (Jim) Huston; six grandchildren, Adrianna, Brent, and Carli Bowers, Chanz James, and Timothy and Brooklynn Whitaker; mother-in-law, Lola Simmerman; his wifes siblings, Ron (Ana) Simmerman and Donna (Walter) Honaker; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve. Tim was baptized July 19, 1959 in Coal Creek at Tipton Rock and had regularly attended the West Liberty Church of Christ for several years. In recent times he enjoyed Bible Study with Les Feldick. He had worked as a mechanic for Warrick Motors and Bilsland Implement Company, but had spent the last 27 years as an electric lineman for the City of Covington. Tim liked fishing, shooting trap with his kids, and travelling to the Smoky Mountains. He loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with all of them. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the ALS Clinic in Indianapolis and SouthernCare Hospice in Lafayette, especially nurses Elaine & Kylee. A service to celebrate the life of Tim Whitaker will be held at 2 PM EST on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Sunsets Covington Chapel, A Life Celebration Home in Covington. Pastors Tom Dougherty and Kevin Wildman will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM EST on Wednesday, February 26, also at Sunsets Covington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Liberty Church of Christ or Les Feldick Ministries.
