Thomas "Tom" Edwards, 75, of Danville passed away at 1:20 PM on April 2, 2023 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL with his family by his side.
Tom was born on March 2, 1948, the son of Robert and Mary Ellen (Turner) Edwards in Danville, IL. He married Vickie Atwood on March 12, 1967 in Danville, IL and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Craig (Shelly) Edwards of Danville, IL, one daughter, Kim Savage of Danville, IL, and five grandchildren, Tyler (Kylie) Knight, Abbie Knight, Sadie Edwards, Andy (Megan) Savage and Thomas Savage.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Vince Savage.
Tom graduated from Oakwood High School in 1966 and started his career in the printing industry with an Apprenticeship from R&S Printing. In 2008, Tom retired from Watchfire. After retirement, he spent many years as a Pilot Car Driver. Tom was a member of Second Church of Christ, the Corvette Club, and sang in the Gospel Aires Quartet for many years. Tom loved his Lord and showed that love in his lifetime by serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder, and church choir member. Tom enjoyed spending his free time taking his corvette out for a drive, playing golf, and mowing the lawn. Tom also loved sports of all kinds. His love of sports began at an early age as a player himself to then coaching his son and watching his grandchildrens sporting activities he never missed a single game. He continued his passion of sports by keeping stats for many Oakwood teams for years. He was especially honored to be Grand Marshal of the Oakwood Homecoming Parade, recognizing his many hours of his volunteering in the Oakwood community. Tom was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini. Above all, Tom cherished spending time with his family and church family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois, 61834. Greg Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery Danville, IL. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the funeral home.
Memorials are requested to the Second Church of Christ Building Fund or the American Cancer Society in Toms memory.
