Danville – Thomas “Tom” “Banjo” Bann, 89, of Danville passed away at 12:05 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at his home with his wife at his side. He was born on September 9, 1936, in Chicago, IL to Charles and Margaret (Gardiner) Bann. His mother and father then divorced and he was raised by a stepfather, Gilbert Summers. Tom married his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty (Jones) Bann, on September 24, 1955. She survives.
He is also survived by a son, Robert (Donna) Bann of Glendale Heights, IL; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jordan) Eder of Antioch, IL, Robert T. Bann of Kenosha, WI, Kyle (Audrey) Bann of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Christian Nierodzik of Glendale Heights, IL, Heather Anderson Robles of WI, Katie Robles of Oakwood, IL, and Jada Robles of Urbana, IL; step-grandchildren, Mari Robles, Bernardo Robles, and Pepe Robles; and 14 great grandchildren; and two half-sisters, Kathy Williams and Elaine Powell.
Tom is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Charles Bann, mother Margaret Summers, stepfather Gilbert Summers, half-sister Gayle Bryant, brothers in law Jack Bryant and Richard Williams, and a daughter, Becky Robles.
Tom began his working career at a young age, first serving as a golf caddy, hotel clerk, and a dance teacher among others. He worked for the Illinois Glove Co. for 43 years until his retirement in 1997 after spending many years as the National Sales Manager. In retirement, Tom enjoyed playing cards of all kinds and golfing. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, including trips to Europe, the Caribbean, and other destinations across the United States.
A service to celebrate the life of Tom Bann will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Reverend Tiffany Black will officiate. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12 – 2 PM prior to the service on Saturday, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
