Thomas "Tom" Alfred Applegate, 73, of Danville, passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, Illinois. He was born April 25, 1931 in Oakwood, Illinois the son of James Alfred and Effie M. (Shroyer) Applegate. He married Carole J. Carpenter on June 1, 1963 at the St. James Methodist Church in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by 3 Sons- Todd Applegate of Danville, Daniel Applegate of Champaign, and Thomas Long from the state of South Carolina; 1 Brother- Rick (Julie) Applegate of Fairmount, Illinois; 1 Sister-in-Law- Judith (Kevin) Thomas of Attica, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 Brother- Frank Applegate; 3 Sisters- Audra Applegate, Barbara Katauskas, and Marjorie Moody. Tom graduated from Oakwood High School in 1949. He served in the Marine Corp's during the Korean War Conflict. He worked at the post office as a postal supervisor for 34 years. After retiring from the post office in 1993 he worked part-time at the Red Wing Shoe store in Danville. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini fan. He enjoyed country music, Willie Nelson, and John Wayne movies. Tom loved to talk to people and had a great sense of humor and was also a great story teller.
