Thomas Strater

Champaign-Thomas C. Strater, 69, of Champaign, IL. passed away on November 14, 2017 at Presence Covenant Hospital in Urbana, IL. Tom was born on August 9, 1948 in Black River Falls, WI. the son of Frederick and Laurian Strater. He is survived by brothers Frederick (Rebecca) and Donald (Nancy) Strater; his wife of 11 years Joan; his children; Rian (Tyler) Roland, Joe Hebert, Casey (Dale) Jervis, Sara Balgoyen, and Marisa (Michael) Schultz. Grandchildren; Avery, Arianna, Jackson Thomas, Julia, Donovan and Liam. Nieces; Michele, Andrea, Whitney and nephew Adam. Tom was a "car guy" who loved restoring old cars and trucks, especially late 1930s Chevrolets. He retired from Prairie Central after driving a concrete truck for 34 years and enjoyed the brotherhood with his fellow Teamsters. Following his retirement, he taught himself how to paint and found he had a passion for art. "Love isn't love until you give it away." Tom gave his love with an open heart to all who crossed his path. He was a beautiful soul and a man of integrity and kindness. Tom had the best hugs around and a smile for all occasions. Because his extraordinary life touched so many and Tom loved a good party, family and friends will host a Celebration of his Life at Cityview Banquet and Meeting Center 45 E University Ave, Champaign, IL. Saturday, November 18th from 11am - 2pm. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister in law Rebecca. An inurnment will be held in Black River Falls, WI. at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send memorials in Tom's name to Gift of Hope or The American Heart Association.
