Thomas Louis Walge, 94, of Danville passed away at 6 pm. on June 9, 2016 at VA Illiana Healthcare System in Danville. He was lovingly cared for by Dr. Elliott and the Palliative Care Staff for which we are forever grateful. Tom was born December 28, 1921 in Danville, Illinois the only child of Thomas Alfred Edward Fred Walge and Nellie Vay (Reese) Walge. He married Irene D. Schaumleffel on July 5, 1940 at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Danville by Father Zulch. They were married for 71 years. Tom is survived by four children; Joe (Carla) Walge of Danville and triplet daughters; Sue (Rod) Hornor of Slidell, LA, Sally (Ted) Limp of Stonington, IL and Sharon (Don) Van Allen of Danville, five grandchildren; Bradley (Linda) Hornor of Marietta, GA, Shelly (John) Hluck of Charlotte, NC, Jamie (Kevin) Allen Sr. of Henning, IL, Sherry (Jeff) Peterson of Macon, IL, and Adam (Amanda) Grimes of Bismarck, IL, Twelve great grandchildren; Stephanie Herron, Kevin Allen Jr., Laura Hornor, Dylan Hornor, Luke Hornor, Rene (Joshua) Arrington, Brandon Hluck, Riley Peterson, Emily Peterson, Shayne Cassidy, Madison Cade and Jacob Peters, three great great grandchildren; Noah and Myeleigh Herron and Charlotte Elizabeth Arrington. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, two grandchildren; Steve Walge and Robert Dowers, daughter in law Carolyn Walge and great granddaughter Brittaney Allen. Tom attended Danville High School and in 2004 he received his honorary diploma. Tom lived his life in the same home for 93 years. He was a WWII Veteran having served in the Navy as Fireman 1st Class with Basic Engineer Rating on the battleship, South Dakota. Tom liked to point out that he was able to watch the signing of the Japanese surrender from his ship at anchor, even though it was taking place on the battleship Missouri which was tied up to the South Dakota. His working years were at Rissman Jacket Factory, C&EI Railroad, Hyster and then retiring from Medline Industries at age 73. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Anchor Lodge 980, Shriners, GAO Grotto and he was a 32nd degree Mason. Tom loved his garage and his moto was to fix anything rather than buy new. In earlier years, Tom enjoyed the Grotto and family pontoon boat. He and his wife loved to dance. He was very fond of dogs and cats and family pets. He enjoyed visits with family, friends and neighbors. A Celebration of the life of Thomas L. Walge will be at 2pm on June 13, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 North Vermilion Street in Danville. Father Geoffrey Scanlon and Deacon Richard Lewis will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park with Military services by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials can be made in Tom's name to the Church of the Holy Trinity or charity of the donor's choice.
