Thomas Gene Taylor, age 65 of Westville, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:05 PM at Presence USMC in Danville. He was born August 25, 1949 in Danville to parents Carol and Bonnie Joan (Neubert) Taylor. Tom married Brenda Davis on February 6, 1987 in Danville, IL. She will miss him dearly. Surviving are his wife Brenda of Westville; children, Thomas J. Taylor of Danville, Bridget (Jeff) Sweeney of Amesbury, MA, Lucas Taylor of Westville, and Emily Taylor of Springfield; grandchildren, Jordan Taylor and Morgan and Alexis Sweeney; step mother Barbara Taylor of Alvin; brother, Glen (Rebecca) Richards; sisters, Brenda (Steve) Copsy, Carolyn Taylor, Tina (Charlie) Forshier, Pam Thomas, and Jill (Gary) Jones; uncles, Rich Taylor and Jimmy (Barb) Taylor; aunts, Doris (Donnie) Payne and Mary Lou (Clint) Simmons; as well as many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents in law, Rick and Diane Howard. Tom was a veteran of the US Army serving in Special Forces during the Vietnam Conflict. He was very proud of that service. Tom then worked as crane operator with O'Neil brothers for 15 years and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841. He then became a business agent for the Operating Engineers, helping put people to work throughout Illinois and Indiana, retiring in 2010 after 22 years of service. During his retirement he had many hobbies. He loved to fix and repair things around the house being "Mr. Fix It" and a "Jack of all trades". Many days you could find Tom fishing or cooking up one of his family's favorite dishes in the kitchen. He also enjoyed ordering from Amazon and seeing what the UPS man would bring him that day. For 3 years, Tom served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 209 and thoroughly enjoyed planning and setting up campsites for the Troop. He was also a member of the Westville Sportsman's Club and enjoyed cooking each week for the Club members. Tom loved his family more than anything in the world and they will all cherish all the memories they have made with him. A Celebration of Tom's life will be held Monday, May 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Drew Mentzer will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be performed by the Attica VFW. Memorials can be made in his name to the Westville Sportsman's Club.
