Thomas "Gene" Hambright

Covington, Ind. -- Thomas "Gene" Hambright, 75, of Covington, passed away at 11:15 a.m. CDT Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the V.A. Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois. Gene was born December 17, 1933 in Pine Village, Indiana, the son of the late George Washington and Esther Cooke Hambright. He married Virginia Lee Barfell on May 19, 1958 in Perrysville, Indiana. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Terri(Pat)Meek of Covington, Indiana and Sharon Lee Hambright of Universal, Indiana; one son, Larry "Mike"(Jean)Hambright of Covington, Indiana; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Effie(Melvin)Goodwin of Monticello, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Terri m. Hambright; grandson, Tommy Mitchell and two brothers. Gene was a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 841 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a veteran, first enlisting with the United States Army then with the Army/Air Force. Gene was a 1952 graduate of Perrysville High School. He enjoyed all sports, especially golfing. Gene greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Saturday, June 13, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Paul Kent; Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington, Indiana with military graveside rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post #263; Visitation: 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, June 13, 2009 until time of services at the funeral home.
