DANVILLE - Thomas F. “Tom” Cordes, 83 of Danville passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at Presence United Samaritan Medical Center in Danville. Born May 24, 1931 in Armstrong, Illinois, he was the son of Claude Franklin and Ruth (Hendricks) Cordes. He married Norma Drollinger on June 7, 1951 at Normas fathers home in Catlin. Tom worked for Trisler Seed Farms in Fairmount, Illinois for many years. He then worked for G.M. in the Finishing Department for 25 years, retiring in 1993. Tom loved to square dance with his wife, and they were members of the Frontier Twirlers. He enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing crossword puzzles and various building and painting projects. Tom loved working out in the yard and growing flowers. Survivors include Toms wife of 63 years, Norma Cordes; one daughter, Marcia (Patrick) Stevens of Danville; two brothers, Don (Irma) Cordes of Tilton and Gene (Susan) Cordes of Sarasota, Florida; five grandchildren, Brooke Stevens of Indianapolis, Tammy Cordes of Rantoul, Chad Cordes of Avon, Derek (Michelle) Cordes of Georgetown, and Corinna (Ken) Revello of Westville; seven great grandchildren, Caleb Cordes of Danville, Troy (Melba) Cordes of Texas, Matthew Cordes of Georgetown, Maddie Cordes of Georgetown, Hannah Elliott of Georgetown, Emily Phillips of Georgetown and Summer Revello of Westville; and one great-great grandson, Michael Cordes of Texas. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John E. Cordes; two brothers, Bill Cordes and Albert Cordes; and a great grandson, Dakota Thilmony. A service to celebrate Toms life will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 18th at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
