Theresa Marie Mackowiak

Theresa Marie Mackowiak, 86, of Westville, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on July 20, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born the youngest of 12 children to John and Catherine Bachusz on September 15, 1930, in East Chicago, Indiana. On May 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Henry Mackowiak, and after 63 years of marriage, he will dearly miss her. She will also be missed by: her children, Diane Mackowiak of Catlin, Gail (Steve) Mills of Georgetown, Larry (Maggie) Mackowiak of South Bend, IN, & Tom (Amy) Mackowiak of St. Louis, MO; her brother-in-law, Ben Mackowiak of Michigan City, IN; her grandchildren, Alex (Jessie) Mills, Paul, Kevin (Ashley), Matt, Tim, Peter, Grace, Mitch, & Jane Mackowiak; her great grandchildren, John Steven & Samantha Marie Mills; several close nieces, nephews and extended family. Faith and family were the cornerstones of Theresa's life. She had devout love for Jesus, Mary and the Saints, and unceasing love for her family and friends. Hospitality and service were two of her greatest gifts to all of us. She welcomed everyone with her warmth, her smile and laughter, and her great homemade meals. She could cook like nobody's business and everyone enjoyed her Polish delicacies and garden zucchini "anything". She worked for 17 years in the cafeteria at General Motors/Central Foundry and spent many retirement winters with Hank in Arizona. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM to 1:00PM on Monday, July 24, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 231 N State St, Westville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00PM with Father Timothy Saupp officiating. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville is handling the arrangements. Theresa will be laid to rest in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. The Mackowiak family would like to thank Theresa's many wonderful caregivers the past few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Theresa's name to St. Mary's Church or a Catholic charity of donor's choice.
