Theodore 'Ted' Schmidt

Theodore Ted E. Schmidt, 85, of Danville, Illinois passed away on November 26, 2010 in his home surrounded by family and his devoted wife of 58 years. Ted was born on May 16, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, son of Theodore and May (Snelling) Schmidt. He married the love of his life, Norma Jean Hausman, on September 1, 1952 in Halbur, Iowa. Norma survives him along with six children: Michael P. Schmidt, Kathleen M. (and James) Broderick, Thomas J. Schmidt, Timothy M. (and Rosie) Schmidt, Margaret Peggy M. Arnold, and David L. (and Linda) Schmidt; fourteen grandchildren: Jason Schmidt, Anthony Schmidt, Heidi Davis, Kimberly Kiely, Lindsey Keele, Gerald Keele, Theodore Schmidt, Erica Schmidt, Olivia Schmidt, James Arnold, Mitchell Arnold, Brett Arnold, Rachel Schmidt, and Eleanor Schmidt; and four great grandchildren: Cameron, Lorelai, and Anthony Davis and Payton Kiely. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, Theodore Peter Schmidt. Ted served in the Army Air Corp and Air Force during WWII and Korea. After the War, he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, and pursued a career on the Milwaukee Railroad and retired after 30 years. He built their first family home himself and had a true passion for helping others and was known as the neighborhood handyman in the many different towns they lived. Most of all, Ted was a devoted husband, father, active member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, and devout Christian. He instilled his faith into his life, family and friendships and rarely left a conversation without a God Bless and Say your prayers . . . dont cost nothing A Memorial Mass for the Life of Theodore will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service. Arrangements are being facilitated through the Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL.
