Theo McConnell, 79, of Henning passed away at 3:45 Pacific Time on October 1, 2009 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California. Theo was born March 30, 1930 in Danville, son of Richard Joseph and Edythe Theo Hayes McConnell. He married Joan Price on June 15, 1971. She survives along with children: Linda Kirby and husband Gary, Juanita Ward and husband Gary, Pat Lyon and husband George, Helen Shaffer and husband Charles, Laura Wittrock and husband Woody, Jenean Henkelman and husband Tom, and Neil McConnell and wife Patty; sisters: Rose Schultz, Mary Wienke, and Carolynne McConnell; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His parents and brother Elmer McConnell preceded him in death. Theo was a 48 graduate of Henning High School and a 53 graduate of University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army and later worked at United Airlines, Henning Grain Co., Cargill, and Country Companies Crop Insurance. Theo was a member of Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church in Danville for a number of years, and a member of the United Methodist Men, the Korean War Veterans Association, Rossville Historical Society, Potomac Masonic Lodge #782, and U of I Alumni Association. Theo enjoyed community participation especially with the Village of Henning, The Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church, and the Korean War Veterans. He was proud to have served as South Ross Township Supervisor for 40 years, Henning Clerk and Treasurer for nearly as many years, and a member of the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard. His love for his family was demonstrated each year with the large McConnell gatherings, especially during the holidays. Theo will be remembered by all for his generosity and kindness. A Celebration of Theos Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Masonic Rites performed by Lodge #782, Pastor James C. Williams will officiate the service, and Military Honors will follow performed by the KWV. Visitation will be held prior to the Celebration from 9-11 am Saturday morning at the funeral home. Please direct memorials to the Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church, 911 N.
