Thelma Smith, 91, of Danville, passed away on January 31, 2014 at 10:30 PM at the Champaign-Urbana Nursing Home and Rehab Center. She was born on December 16, 1922 in Danville, the daughter of Jack and Yvonne Foster. She married Joseph E. Smith on June 14, 1943 in Danville and they spent 31 years together before his passing in 1982. She will be deeply missed by four sons, Phillip (Connie) Smith of Momence, IL, Paul Smith of Champaign, IL, John (Diane) Smith of Schaumburg, IL and Charles (Rebecca) Smith of Morton, IL, five grandchildren, Eric (Jennifer) Smith, Ryan Smith, Zachary (Helen) Smith, Kara (Eric) Brown, Jonathan (Danielle) Smith and six great grandchildren, Lauren, Sarah and Savannah Smith; Katherine and Elizabeth Brown and Jackson Smith. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, James Smith and one sister, Jackie Bunch. Thelma graduated from Danville High School and went on to be a loan officer at Danville Building and Loan Association during World War II. She also worked at Walgreens accounting and Peterson Puritan as a secretary until her retirement. Thelma was active in the Westville Womens Club, serving as President, and Kiwanis Club. She was a life-long member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville and loved gardening, watching movies, reading and sewing. A celebration of life for Thelma will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Fr. Greg Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home with a prayer service starting at 3:30 PM. Burial will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Danville. Memorials can be made in Thelmas name to St. Pauls Catholic Church.
