Thelma Mathes

Thelma J. Mathes, 99, of Westville, IL, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at 11:35pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at her daughters home. She was born on January 1, 1910, in Ridge Farm, IL, the daughter of John and Mary Anne (Pollitt) Meadows. Thelma and Luther married in June of 1937. They were married for 66 years, until his passing in 2003. Survivors include a son, John (Ruth) Mathes of Urbana, IL, a daughter, Patti (Bob) Miller of Westville, seven grandchildren, Dennis Mathes of Jacksonville, IL, Melissa (Travis) Bauer of Urbana, Susan (Gary) Nusbaum of Phoenix, AZ, Shauna Major of Phoenix, AZ, Steve Major of Puerto-Rico, Rob Miller of Pittsburg, PA, Peter Miller of Newtown, IL, and her great-granddaughter, Alexandria. Her four wonderful caregivers, Patsy, Mary, Judy, Flo, and her very special friend, Evelyn Conley, will also miss Thelma. Her parents, two brothers, Kenneth, Alfred, her sister, Mildred, and her daughter, Lucille Major, which passed away in 1993, precede Thelma in death. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville and was known for giving great hugs. A Celebration of Thelmas Life will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville with Pastor Jerry Cummins and Pastor James Ford to officiate. Internment will be held at 9:00am on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Sunset Memorial park in Danville. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial condolences may be made in Thelmas name to the First Baptist School in Danville.
